A PENSIONER who denied assaulting a woman by beating has been found guilty at trial.
Phillip Rutter appeared before magistrates in Hereford earlier this month accused of one count of assault by beating.
The court heard from prosecutor Paul John that the 74-year-old assaulted a woman by beating her in Hereford on May 16 last year.
This is contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
Rutter entered a not guilty plea to the charge on November 8, and the case was sent for trial.

At the trial on September 17, Rutter, of Church Road, Hereford, was found guilty of the offence.
Rutter, who was represented in court by defence solicitor Matthew Lewis, was handed an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £150 in compensation to the victim.
He must also pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £26 victim surcharge.
He has until October 15 to settle his court bill in full.
