HEREFORDSHIRE “20s plenty for us” is part of the national campaign for 20mph on streets where people live.
Safer roads require evidence-based speed limits including 20mph on the majority of streets and roads where people live.
The average risk of death for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle reaches 10 per cent at an impact speed of 23mph, 25 per cent at 32mph, 50 per cent at 42mph, 75 per cent at 50mph, and 90 per cent at 58mph.

We know that death and injury when vehicles hit a child can be reduced if we adopt a general 20mph speed limit on roads where people live. We also know that this has to be done on the majority of streets and roads where people live and not on short stretches of roads, such as near schools.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.
20mph policies “where people live” are now in place in local authority areas with a total population of nearly 30 million but not in Herefordshire.
We have asked Herefordshire Council to adopt the same policy but this request has been rejected and residents are as a result exposed to a greater risk of death and injury than is the case in best practice counties.
