A HEREFORDSHIRE driver has been banned from the roads after he was clocked at almost twice the limit on a motorway.

Thomas Henry Maguire entered a guilty plea to one count of exceeding a variable speed limit to magistrates in September.

The court heard from the prosecutor that the 20-year-old, of Wilton, Ross-on-Wye, had been behind the wheel of a Citroen at Bradwall on the M6 motorway in Cheshire when he committed the offence at 10.45pm on April 7.

The motorway was subject to a variable speed limit of 40 miles per hour at the time, but Maguire was clocked doing almost double the limit at 75 miles per hour by an automatic speed camera, the court was told.

Magistrates in Chester said they had taken the guilty plea into account, fining Maguire £120 and disqualifying him from driving for three months for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £110 and a £48 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
