A Herefordshire group which puts unwanted items to good use has been allowed to take on a large new premises.

Herefordshire Community Environment Group, now known as Herefordshire Recycle & Reuse Organisation (HRRO), is a community interest company (CIC) which diverts furniture, household goods and clothing away from landfill.

These are instead donated to those in need in the county, including homeless people and refugees, or sold for funds.

RELATED NEWS:

It applied for planning permission in May to turn an industrial building, Wye Valley Court on the Rotherwas industrial estate southeast of Hereford, with a floorspace of around 1,000 square metres, into a store and small shop for donated goods.

The proposal drew nearly 50 public messages of support, with none objecting.

Mark Edwards wrote that the group had been “hampered by their hitherto nomadic existence” but would now have “a permanent base to continue their good work”.

OTHER NEWS:

Deboran Sissons said the group “are lovely people and will not cause you any trouble”.

With no objections either from official consultees, council planning officer Joshua Evans concluded the plan “will help to continue the employment use of the building”.

It “will not have an adverse impact on highway safety and will provide adequate parking, (and) turning”, he added.
