AN AUDI driver was three times over the alcohol limit when he was caught on a Herefordshire road.

Mark Jones, of Paradise Court, Leominster, had 105 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped in Caradoc Drive, Leominster on September 26.  The legal limit is 35mg.

Prosecuting solicitor, Mark Hambling told Hereford Magistrates Court that police received a call at 5.45pm from the Chequers pub saying a man was seen getting into an Audi and driving off.

"CCTV captured it," said Mr Hambling.

"The police carried out their checks on the vehicle. Mr Jones was driving it and was the only occupant."

The court heard that Jones, who pleaded guilty to drink driving, has previous excess alcohol convictions. In 2018, the 41-year-old received a three-year driving disqualification, while he also had a four-year one in 2013.

In defence, Chris Reid said his client has engaged with Turning Point regarding undertaking an alcohol programme and has mental health issues.

Jones was handed an interim ban from driving and told to return to court on December 5 when he will be sentenced. He was given unconditional bail.
