AS a former teacher, professionally interested in reading, language skills and access to knowledge, as a local tour guide and a lover of our historic city, I applaud and welcome the idea of moving the library to the Shirehall.
It would save and restore this beautiful and historic building and bring it back into regular use. What is the point of restoring it, and then probably leaving it an empty shell?

Its own long and fascinating history can be revealed and illustrated (like the Old House and Ledbury’s Master’s House for example).
The Shirehall has space for all that a modern library can offer, and it can be adapted to offer easy access for all. Local buses arrive in St Peter’s Square and there is parking outside, as well as close by in Gaol Street.
