IN my 70th year, I have a senior bus pass and no smartphone.
Meanwhile, many younger bus passengers pay their fares contactless through their smartphones with no wastage of paper, while only one Herefordshire bus operator, Yeomans, ceased issuing tickets to senior passengers in May and none have followed suit since.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.
More recently, I have read that a thermal coating on machine-generated bus and rail tickets renders them non-recyclable, so they should be placed in our black bins.
Perhaps local authorities, therefore, should encourage all bus operators to follow Yeomans’ example.
“Every little helps.”
