A DRINK-driver caught out in Hereford's Belmont Road while more than twice the limit has been banned from the roads.

George Fitzgerald entered a guilty plea to one count of driving while over the alcohol limit when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in May.

The court heard from prosecutor Gillian Monk that the 27-year-old had been caught out after getting behind the wheel of a blue Volkswagen Golf on the A465 Belmont Road in Hereford while over the drink-driving limit on April 28.

An evidential breath test revealed that he had 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than twice the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.

Fitzgerald, of Maes Corton, Presteigne, was disqualified from driving for 20 months and fined £120 for the offence, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account when imposing the penalty.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £48 victim surcharge.
