FARMER John Price should not be in jail, says Sir Bill Wiggin (HT, April 27).
John Price did some work previously so he knew what was required on the river Lugg protected site. I read about Natural England and the Environment Agency’s successful prosecution in last week’s Hereford Times.

One year’s sentence then doesn’t seem so harsh. Sir Bill Wiggin claims the John Price sentence is unfair as it is example to others.
A real example is a maximum 10-year sentence, the new law a climate crisis protestor can face for a second offence. Alarmingly, Natural England’s function could be lessened if this government can do so.
