A SERVICE that provides a lifeline for many disabled people in Hereford is to remain open following talks between Herefordshire Council and the charity that runs it.

Score Day Opportunities provides a range of community-based activities for people with various needs, such as Down Syndrome and Autism, with many connections and friendships made for nearly 20 years.

Affinity Trust, a charity that runs the site in Catherine Street, said earlier this month that the service would close from May 31 - devastating families who rely on the service.

However, further discussions between the charity and the council has meant that SCORE will remain open after all.

Hilary Hall, Director of Community Wellbeing at Herefordshire Council said: “We are delighted that we have been able to prevent the closure of Score.

"We are very aware of the positive benefits that people derive from their involvement with the range of day opportunities within the county, and the council is committed to ensuring the continued availability of this support to enable service users to maintain their independence.”

Andrew Beland, Director of Operations at Affinity Trust, added: “SCORE is a much loved and much needed service for people with learning disabilities and other support needs.

"We are delighted that we have been able to reach a resolution with Herefordshire Council and that SCORE will be able to continue to provide its vital services to the people who use it.

“I’m very grateful to Hereford Council for working in partnership with us to keep SCORE open, and to the families who made sure we felt their support. I know everyone at SCORE is delighted with this outcome.”
