MULTIPLE fire crews tackled a fire in a house used for antique storage near Ledbury last night.

The fire service was called to the blaze in Preston Cross, near Ledbury at 6.20pm last night.

A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Six Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Fownhope, Ledbury, Upton-upon-Severn, Hereford, Droitwich and Ross-on-Wye Fire Stations – plus the water carrier from Leominster, the incident command unit from Ledbury and the environmental protection unit from Tenbury Wells as well as a Gloucester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Tewkesbury Fire Station were called.

"A two-storey detached building, 20m by 10m, used for antiques storage was well alight with the fire fought using four jets, four hosereel jets and a compressed air foam system. The ground floor was 80 per cent involved in fire, the first floor 100 per cent and the roof space 80 per cent.

"The fire was not suspicious and no crime was involved. National Grid attended to isolate power but no other emergency services attended. There were no casualties and, as far as HWFRS was concerned, the incident was marked as pending closure at 2.25am with the incident handed over to the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service as the scene of the fire falls within their county."
