CONTROVERSIAL celebrity Russell Brand is planning a three-day spiritual event on the banks of the river Wye.

Community by Russell Brand is advertised as an event to help personal awakening and social change, and it's being held in Hay-on-Wye this summer.

In a Facebook post, the comedian said: "Three months to go until we're swimming in the Wye again."

The post included a video of Brand, 47, swimming in the river, blighted by phosphate pollution, near Hay-on-Wye.

The event's webpage on Brand's website said the comedian and friends will be back in Hay-on-Wye this summer for three days of camping and conversation on spirituality, wellness, healthy living and the environment.

The event, from July 14 to 17 is held on a "beautiful greenfield site on the river Wye", just a five-minute walk to Hay-on-Wye town centre.

Revellers are told to limber up for yoga or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and be ready to enjoy musical performances and relax with meditation and massage from a range of holistic healers on site.

"Be inspired by the natural beauty of the area with a canoeing experience on the river Wye," it added.

Profits from Community will go to the Stay Free Foundation which supports people through recovery and addiction.

Brand started his career as a comedian before becoming an MTV presente and became a household name while hosting Big Brother's Big Mouth in 2007.

The one-time husband of singer Katy Perry later turned his hand to acting before becoming known as a controversial activist and campaigner.

Brand has been the subject of frequent media coverage and controversy for issues such as his promiscuity, drug use and political views.

Tickets to the event cost £225 with parking and camping extra.
