AN elderly dog has been found abandoned covered in mud.

Posting on its Facebook page, Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue (HWAR) said that the pooch, who is believed to have the name 'Roxy' arrived at a property in Sellack, near Ross-on-Wye, last night (Friday) covered in mud and very hungry.

The charity said that it was microchipped to someone out of the local area, but it has not been able to make contact on the phone numbers provided.

Posting an update this morning (Saturday), HWAR said: "Our hearts are breaking for this gorgeous girl, she is currently in our care and we just adore her!

"If there is a genuine owner out there they need to come forward asap!

"If you are her owner and you abandoned her where you did as you can’t face/afford the inevitable then please contact us anonymously, let us know her name and some of her favourite things so we can spoil her.

"Nothing would make us happier than to find a genuine loving owner if she has wandered off and got lost.

"This sweet, precious girl isn’t suffering but showing signs of dementia, is weak and wobbly on her back legs, possibly deaf and poor eyesight.

"She is currently snuggled up warm and will be under 24 hour observation.

"Chipped as ‘Roxy’, not sure if this is an old name as she was chipped many years ago. Contact numbers are incorrect, we will continue to search."
