A 4x4 vehicle has been left abandoned after getting stuck on a broken bollard in Oxford.

The car was pictured following it being driven over a bollard on Magdalen Road.

Many on social media found the funny side to the incident.

Simon Bond tweeted: "Clearly the bollard is at fault here. I can't see any hi-viz and I bet it wasn't wearing a helmet!"

Another added: "@WorldBollard Are you going to stand for this!!!???"

Others were more sympathetic, however. A local householder, who asked not to be named, remarked that the vehicle may have belonged to a visitor to the area or the parents of a student being picked up for the Easter holiday, adding: "If you are not familiar with the layout of the roads around here – and up-to-date with which ones are blocked – it can be confusing and stressful."

An Oxford City Council spokesperson said: “Removal of the vehicle is the responsibility of Thames Valley Police and once removed ODS will arrange for the bollard to be repaired.”

The Oxford Mail has contacted Thames Valley Police for an update on its removal.
