MISCONDUCT proceedings are set to take place against a former West Mercia Police student officer after he was handed a suspended sentence at the crown court.

A former student officer, Joseph Mudd, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court yesterday to 12 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 200 hours of unpaid work for perverting the course of justice.

Joseph Mudd, aged 19, received a speeding ticket and falsely claimed a family member was driving in order for them to take the points on their licence.

Mudd, who has since resigned from the force, pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice in Hereford and was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court.
