SCHOOLS in Herefordshire will again be closed today due to snow.

A blanket of snow is covering the county, with more on the way.

A number of schools have already announced they will be closed this morning.

School closures

  • Aconbury Centre: closed today due to the impact on staffing and transport as a result of the adverse weather conditions.
  • Almeley Primary School: school is closed due to snow.
  • Ashperton Primary School: closed due to overnight snow fall.
  • Barrs Court School: closed on Thursday, March 9.
  • Blackmarston School: school is closed Thursday, March 9.
  • Bredenbury Primary School: the school has been closed due to concern around site safety and possible hazards in the surrounding area.
  • Brockhampton Primary School: school closed due to snow
  • Brookfield School and Specialist College: due to buses not being able to safely drive around the county in the snow, the school is closed until tomorrow. 
  • Burghill Community Academy: school closed today, March 9.
  • Canon Pyon CE Academy: school closed today, March 9.
  • Clehonger Primary School: closed today due to the weather, staffing, and health and safety.
  • Clifford Primary School: due to the snow the school will be closed today, March 9.
  • Colwall C of E Primary School:  closed today due to dangerous approaches to the school. With more snow forecast, the potential risk to the school community travelling to and from school is too great.
  • Cradley CE Primary School: closed on Thursday, March 9, 2023, due to icy and snowy conditions
  • Eardisley CE Primary School: staff have reluctantly taken the decision to close the today due to the weather conditions. Staff will provide work on Class Dojo for learning ideas.
  • Earl Mortimer College and Sixth Form Centre: closed due to snow and the impact on travel conditions
  • Ewyas Harold Primary School: closed today due to snow.
  • Fairfield High School: closed due to snow fall overnight. A spokesperson said: "The safety of staff and students is paramount and we do not want to put anyone at risk either around the site or on the journey to and from school. Students should work from Google Classroom. Depending on the weather, we hope to open as normal tomorrow but will update via email, our social media and website as usual."
  • Garway Primary School and Pre-school: closed today due to snow.
  • Hereford Academy: due to the adverse weather conditions, and staff being unable to safely travel to school, the school will be closed today, Thursday, March 9. We intend to reopen on Friday, March 10. The trip to Hereford Arts College is also cancelled.
  • Ivington CE Primary School: the school and pre-school are closed today due to the snow and road conditions.
  • Kimbolton St James' CE Primary School: closed due to snow and staff unable to get in.
  • Kingsland CE Primary: closed on Thursday, March 9, due to the increasingly treacherous snow conditions and high staff illness.
  • Kingstone High School: closed today due to weather conditions affecting transport and staffing. Work will be set on TEAMs. Kingstone and Thruxton Primary will remain open unless notified further,
  • Kington Primary School: closed today due to the continuing snowfall and the risk to staff and families who are travelling in. Please look on the school website class pages for home learning ideas and the school will keep you informed about school opening tomorrow.
  • Lady Hawkins High School: closed due to snow. School buses are not safe on the roads currently and the whole site is under heavy snow. Students to use Teams to access their work where available.
  • Leintwardine Primary School and Nursery: closed today due to snow.
  • Leominster Primary School: school closed today, Thursday, March 9, due to weather conditions. Learning on Purple Mash.
  • Longtown Primary School: closed today, March 9, due to adverse weather conditions. "As there is a substantial amount of snow already on site and the surrounding roads, we have made the decision to close the school to ensure the safety of our pupils and all those travelling to and from our rural site."
  • Lugwardine Primary Academy: school is closed due to snow
  • Luston Primary School: closed today due to the snow.
  • Michaelchurch Escley Primary School and Pre-school: closed on Thursday, March 9, due to snow.
  • Orleton CE Primary School: closed today due to snow.
  • Pembridge CE Primary School: closed on Thursday, March 9.
  • Pencombe CE Primary School: closed today due to treacherous road conditions in and around the village.
  • Peterchurch Primary School: closed due to the snow.
  • Queen Elizabeth High School: unfortunately conditions are making it difficult to get sufficient staff to school. We will go to remote learning, details to follow.
  • Shobdon Primary School: closed on Thursday, March 9. 
  • St David's Centre: St. David's and H3 will be closed today due to the impact on staffing and transport as a result of the adverse weather conditions.
  • St Mary's CE Primary School, Credenhill: closed due to adverse weather.
  • St Peter's Primary School: unfortunately conditions are making it difficult to get sufficient staff to school. We will go to remote learning, details to follow.
  • St Weonards Primary School: closed today due to adverse weather conditions. All work for your child has been set on Seesaw or Google Classroom.
  • Staunton-on-Wye Endowed Primary School: closed today due to a power cut and snow.
  • Steiner Academy Hereford: due to unsafe road conditions, the school will be closed today.
  • Stoke Prior Primary School: due to hazardous travel conditions, the school will be closed this morning.
  • Stretton Sugwas C of E Academy: school closed today, March 9
  • Wellington Primary School: closed to pupils and staff due to the weather conditions. Remote learning available.
  • Weobley High School: closed today due to treacherous road conditions and no bus services available. Work will be set on Google Classroom.
  • Westfield School: due to the combination of existing staff illness and the unsafe road conditions we will remain closed on March 9 to ensure everyone's safety. Any scheduled meetings can still take place via Teams.
  • Wigmore Primary School: closed today Thursday, March 9, due to snow
  • Wigmore School: closed today Thursday, March 9, due to snow - all students should work from home. Lessons will be delivered via Microsoft TEAMS, all students have been given instructions how to access their lessons.
