A HEREFORDSHIRE business has been handed a coveted gold award by an international body.

Herefordshire business, Allensmore Nurseries has been awarded Gold for sustainability by the International Association of Horticultural Producers.

The award was made at the prestigious international awards in Essen, Germany.

Judges commented on water recycling, solar panels, biological pest control and the use of electric vehicles.

They also highlighted the conservation activities the business undertakes including bird boxes, promoting wild flowers and introducing bat boxes.

Building a poly tunnel at Madley Primary School and working with Madley in Bloom are initiatives judges also noted.

Managing director Mark Taylor said: “Sustainable production is at the heart of the everything the business undertakes. Not only reducing environmental impact but having a positive impact on the local environment and support for the local community is key to how the business operates.”

Production director Kevin Campbell said: “Staff love the environmental and conservation aspects of the business and take great pride in the business being recognised for the work it does in these areas.”

With spring just around the corner all of the team at Allensmore are looking forward to a busy season supplying ornamental plants to UK garden centres, DIY stores and supermarkets.
