Teachers' strike: Herefordshire schools closing on Wednesday

Our live feed has now finished.

  • Schools across Herefordshire will shut or partially close on Wednesday as teachers walk out in a national row over pay.
  • Mary Bousted, joint general secretary of the National Education Union (NEU), has called on school leaders to let parents know ahead of Wednesday (February 1) if they plan to shut their doors during strike action this week.
  • Teachers don't have to say if they plan to strike, but some are. At one school in Herefordshire, half of the teaching staff are walking out.
  • The NEU said it has received 22,000 new sign-ups recently after announcing it will launch seven days of walkouts throughout February and March in England and Wales.
