A BUS has slid on an icy road on the Herefordshire border, leaving it blocked.

The bus closed the road – believed to be Weston Road – between Knighton and Bucknell on after slipping on black ice, with temperatures dipping below freezing overnight this week.

Mandy Fowkes posted this picture of the Minsterley Motors bus on the Knighton News Facebook page, saying the bus had slid on black ice at around 5pm on Monday (January 16).

It is believed the road was closed for around three hours before reopening.

On the other side of the Herefordshire-Powys border, council gritters were out once again last night as temperatures fell away to minus 3C, possibly lower, in some places.

On Wednesday, Herefordshire Council contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places said some roads were closed.

While flooding was still affecting some routes, it said the previous day that the C1098 Madley to Bridge Sollars road was closed due to floods freezing.

Drivers in the area had used threatening and abusive language towards its workers, it said.

"This will not be tolerated on here [Twitter] or in person," a spokesperson said.

"Our teams are working to maximum capacity due to the weather and keeping the network operational."

Parts of Herefordshire also woke up to snowfall on Wednesday morning, with children at Michaelchurch Escley Primary School in the Golden Valley enjoying a snowball fight.
