A MINI driver has been banned from the roads after he was caught drink-driving in a busy Hereford street.

Rees Haymonds entered a guilty plea to one charge of driving a motor vehicle while over the alcohol limit when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in January.

The court heard from prosecutor Mark Hambling that the 22-year-old had been caught behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper in Hereford's Victoria Street while over the drink-driving limit on December 11.

An evidential breath test revealed that he had 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the court was told. The legal driving limit is 35 microgrammes.

OTHER NEWS:

Haymonds, who is of Standale Road in Hereford, was fined £392 for the offence and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 17 months, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account.

He must also pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £184 victim surcharge.

He was offered the opportunity to complete the drink-drive rehabilitation course, which will reduce his ban by 17 weeks if successfully completed.
