MORE flooding could hit Herefordshire as a weather warning comes into force over the county border in Wales.

Heavy rain is hitting Wales today (January 10), with The Met Office issuing a yellow warning for rain for Wales up to the Herefordshire border.

The warning covers the course of the river Wye in Wales and is in force from 6am to 8pm today.

The river, which winds through Herefordshire and Hereford itself starts in the Welsh mountains at Plynlimon, flowing through Rhayader, Builth Wells, and Hay-on-Wye, before entering Herefordshire.

What has the Met Office said?

The Met Office said outbreaks of rain will spread across England and Wales during Tuesday.

"This will be heaviest and most persistent across parts of Wales, particularly over higher ground," forecasters said.

"Rainfall totals of 80-100 mm could accumulate over high ground."

Where in Herefordshire is at risk?

Flood alerts are still in force for the Arrow, Lugg, Leadon catchment, and Wye in Herefordshire, with the Environment Office warning flooding is possible in these areas.

The Met Office said today will be mild, wet and overcast throughout with persistent heavy rain during the morning.

This afternoon will be cloudy with intermittent rain and drizzle.

Rain will become heavier and more persistent this evening before clearing around midnight.
