A BANNED Herefordshire man has been jailed after getting behind the wheel of a car while subject to a suspended prison sentence.

Kristian Jones Davies entered guilty pleas to charges of driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance when he appeared before magistrates in Merthyr Tydfil in January after previously entering not guilty pleas at an earlier hearing.

He also admitted committing a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence order imposed by magistrates in Hereford on June 6, 2021, for driving while disqualified.

The court heard from the prosecutor that the 32-year-old defendant had been caught driving a Nissan X-Trail in Nantddu, Penybont, while disqualified from driving on December 26.

He had also been driving that vehicle without a valid insurance policy in place in Nantddu, the court heard.

Magistrates said the offence was serious as it was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence and was aggravated by the defendant's record of previous offending and activated the 12-week suspended prison sentence.

Jones Davies, who is of Pump Piece in Leominster, was handed a 16-week prison sentence, which will be served consecutively to the 12-week sentence, and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for five years.

He must also pay a £154 victim surcharge order, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
