AN ATTACKER who assaulted another man by beating in Herefordshire has been handed a community order by magistrates.

Rhys Jones entered a guilty plea to one count of assault by beating when he appeared at a hearing before magistrates at Hereford's Bath Street Justice Centre in November.

The court heard from Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Eleanor Peart that the 25-year-old defendant had assaulted a man by beating in an incident in Herefordshire on July 12.

Jones, who is of Roman Road, Hereford, was handed a nine-month community order and must participate in up to 15 rehabilitation activity days, magistrates said.

He was also fined £50 for the offence, with magistrates saying they had taken his guilty plea into account when deciding on the penalty.

Jones was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £35 and a £114 victim surcharge order, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
