Hereford Football Club are investigating a complaint that a supporter made homophobic remarks to a Darlington player during their match against Darlington.

The club said: "We have immediately launched a full investigation and will work alongside West Mercia Police and Darlington FC to establish what happened, and we are therefore appealing for witnesses to come forward with information of today’s incident.

"Hereford FC will not tolerate any form of homophobic abuse and anyone found guilty of using such language will be banned from Edgar Street."

Hereford lost 1-2 at home to Darlington yesterday (Saturday). It was the Bulls' third defeat in a row at Edgar Street and allowed Darlington to claimed second spot in National League North.

In his post match press conference, Bulls boss Josh Gowling confirmed that the referee had made him aware of the incident which led to the the game being held up in the second half.

He said: "There was a little comment made to one of the players. The stewards went over, had a conversation and I think threw the person out. Obviously we won’t tolerate that at this football club."
