A HEREFORDSHIRE drink-driver has escaped a roads ban for 'special reasons'.

Lisa Williams entered a guilty plea to one count of drink-driving when she appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

The court heard from prosecutor Andrew Mitchinson that the 29-year-old had been caught behind the wheel of a blue Volvo V40 while over the drink-drive limit in Church Road in Winforton, Herefordshire, between June 3 and June 4.

An evidential breath test taken by police revealed Williams had 79 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than twice the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.

OTHER NEWS:

Magistrates found that there were special reasons for not disqualifying Williams from driving, despite the offence usually carrying a mandatory roads ban, finding that the car had been driven a very short distance and was not driven very well, but that it was damaged to the extent that it would not move forward, and that she had no intention to drive any further than was seen on video footage.

They also found that she was very unlikely to come into contact with other road users or pedestrians due to the location of the incident and the time of day.

Williams, of Calcot Place Drive, Reading, was fined £1,436 ad received 11 penalty points. She must also pay costs of £130 and a £143 victim surcharge.
