Herefordshire-born Premier League footballer Jarrod Bowen has missed out on a place in the England World Cup squad.

With just days to go until their Group B opener against Iran (Monday, November 21), Three Lions boss Gareth Southgage largely stuck with the tried and tested while still managing to make some eye-catching decisions on his squad for Qatar.

West Ham forward Bowen, though, misses out. The attackers Southgate has chosen to go are Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), James Maddison (Leicester City), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), Callum Wilson (Newcastle United).

Bowen's fellow forwards Roma striker Tammy Abraham (Roma), Ivan Toney (Brendford), and Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) are also likely to feel disappointed.

After unsuccessful trials at Aston Villa and Cardiff City, Bowen started his career as a scholar at Hereford United. He is now based in London, but his family still live near Leominster.

At the age of 17, Bowen broke into the Hereford United first team after impressing for the youth team that season, making his debut in a 2–0 loss against Barnet in March 2014.

He scored his first career goal in April 2014 in Hereford's 3–2 home victory over Alfreton Town.

After Hereford were expelled from the Football Conference in June 2014, Bowen signed for Premier League club Hull City in July before he joined West Ham United on a permanent transfer.

The Premier League club paid an initial £18 million for the forward, with up to seven million pounds in potential add-ons.

Bowen had been named in the England squad for the side's Nations League games this summer.
