PLANS have been submitted which could see three new houses built in Welland.

An application has been submitted to Malvern Hills District Council for permission in principle to build three new homes at Drake Street in Welland.

The homes, if approved, would be located on a parcel of land near Myrtle Cottage.

Permission in principle applications ask the council if they agree to the overall concept of a future development, rather than the specific application itself.

Once approved, a full planning application detailing the more specific details of the application would then be submitted.

Planning documents associated with the plan said: "The proposed site is situated in the village of Welland, Worcestershire which is located approximately 6 kilometres to the southwest of Great Malvern.

"The site is a small parcel of land that is accessed off Drake Street, the main A4104.

"The field is part of a large property with horses and mixed livestock.

"The domestic residence and outbuildings are found adjacent to the application area.

"The site is generally flat with a ground cover of improved grass.

"A small water course is present external of the north boundary.

"The general area has had various new developments granted.

"Other fields that surround the plot have the same land use as application area."

The proposed new homes are one of several plans which could see the size of Welland drastically increase.

In 2020, neighbours spoke out about plans for 14 homes on land to the north of Cornfield Close in the village.

These were to be built next to 24 recently-completed houses.

Another contentious planning matter in Welland is that of the Pheasant Inn, which has sat empty for several years.

A number of plans have come up for residential development on-site, but these have repeatedly been rejected by MHDC.

A new application is recommended for approval by council officers which would see the pub turned into flats, alongside a new extension housing a restaurant and café, bar and function room.

Officers have recommended the application is approved when Malvern Hills District Council’s planning committee meets on November 16.
