HEREFORDSHIRE’S health and social care heroes have been honoured for their sterling efforts over the past 12 months.

The University of Worcester-backed Hereford Times Health & Social Care Awards took place at the Three Counties Hotel last night, with a total of 11 prizes handed out during a glittering ceremony.

The awards evening was hosted by Dr Dawn Harper, best known for her role on Bafta award winning Channel 4 show "Embarrassing Bodies"

Lynhales Hall Nursing Home’s John Sperry Memorial Unit claimed the Mental Health Award and then picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award as overall winners.

The John Sperry Memorial Unit is a state-of-the-art facility offering nursing care for people with varying types/stages of dementia, challenging behaviours and other mental health conditions.

Michelle Prideaux from the John Sperry Memorial Unit said: "It feels amazing just being here with everyone after the last few years.

"It's been a struggle for everyone through Covid, but it is fantastic to celebrate all our hard work with these awards tonight."

Meanwhile, Services for Independent Living’s Agnieszka Simpkin received the Care Hero Award and the Carer in the Home Award went to Katherine Harriet Bespoke Home Care’s Chlorinda Lane.

Oana Gidofalvi, of Hampton Grange & Gwen Walford Nursing Home, scooped the Excellence in Nursing Award, while Hereford Hospital Radio’s Peter Trigg was named Volunteer of the Year.

The Wye Clinic’s Rachael Lloyd overcame colleagues Lynne Dunn and Sarah Gwilim to take the Private Healthcare Staff Member of the Year title.

The Health Care Team Award went to the Wye Valley NHS Trust’s Healthcare Support Worker Project and Services for Independent Living was the Best Place to Work Award winner.
