A CITY pupil is hitting all the right notes after being accepted into the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Matthew Leak, from the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, has become the second pupil from Bishops to have obtained this accolade in recent years.

The 16-year-old trumpet player, currently studying for his GCSEs, joins a band which regularly records for BBC Radio 2 and Radio 3.

Some of its members have become world-renowned performers and conductors and recent concert venues have included the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Academy of Music and Queen Elizabeth Hall.

In recent years, the band has commissioned new compositions from leading composers, often with funding support from the Arts Council of England.
