A HEREFORD café has temporarily closed for refurbishment for nine days.

Rocket Café is an independent café set along Hereford’s picturesque Church Street that still holds the atmosphere of what it was like years ago, the owners said.

Owner Bill Gannon said he offers his customers different hot and cold food such as pizza, flatbreads, and salads, as well as an array of freshly made cakes.

It is usually open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm, according to its Facebook page.

“Exciting times,” said Mr Gannon.

At the weekend it was offering wraps and cakes at the Hereford River Carnival.

Inside currently has a kitchen and counter, wooden tables and chairs with booths and blue wooden panelling around the bottom half of the walls.

One wall is painted grey and the rest white with paintings, while the floor is mock tiling.

But its prominent feature is two beams splitting two halves of the café.
