A PUB on the Herefordshire border has received national recognition for its food.

The Old Black Lion in Hay-On-Wye has been awarded two AA rosettes for culinary excellence, while maintaining its four-star AA rated accommodation.

Owners Gillian and James Walton took over the business in July 2021, just as pubs and restaurants started to re-open after the Covid lockdown.

The kitchen team, which is led by head chef Mark Turton, with help from David Hill and Geraint Jones, are passionate about food and the menu they put together.

"Sourcing local ingredients from local suppliers is integral to the food we serve."

Owner Mrs Walton said: "To build upon the good reputation already in place and the high quality of dishes being produced, being awarded two rosettes became the goal, not only for our customers and staff but also for the town.

"We want guests to enjoy fantastic food in a relaxed environment. Additionally, we want guests to feel welcome from the moment they walk through the door whether it is a meal out, a special occasion or they stay with us."
