MCDONALD’S has submitted a new planning application for a drive-thru restaurant near a Herefordshire town after a previous application was withdrawn.

The new restaurant would be located to the east of the A40, adjacent to the Over Ross Roundabout with the A449, to the north of Ross on Wye.

People living in the neighbouring housing estate St Mary’s Garden Village submitted objections to the previous application over concerns the entrance would cause issues of noise, traffic, pollution and safety issues.

The new application shows the site will be bigger than the previous plans showed.

This is to allow for future development to use the space for more building and more green space between the houses and McDonald’s.

A detailed landscape plan and ecological statement have been provided outlining the finer detail of the additional green space.

This provides a better barrier between the proposed development and the existing residential properties, the application said.

In its new plans McDonald’s also said the larger site will provide a range of local jobs to the area.

The fast-food chain’s design team have considered the sites design background of the surrounding area and provided a justified reasons of the development and how it complies with key policies, said the plans.

OTHER NEWS:

The application says each consultation comment from the previous planning application has been reviewed and the resubmission has carefully considered these within the relevant technical reports and drawings.

While the original design received no objection from both National Highways and the County Council Highways Department, McDonald’s said time and effort was spent exploring an alternative access to the site directly from the A40 to try and alleviate residents’ concerns.

“While not required by either consultee, this was explored in good faith, however the principle of access from the A40 was not considered viable by National Highways,” said the plans.

Comments can be submitted for the application P222314/F until Thursday, August 18.

The target date for a decision from planners for the application is Wednesday, September 7.
