Train services operating through Herefordshire will not run today due to industrial strike action.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT) has announced strike action will take place on Wednesday July 27.

During talks between unions and Network Rail, workers were offered a four per cent pay rise, another two per cent next year and a further two per cent conditional on achieving “modernisation milestones”.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “The offer from Network Rail represents a real-terms pay cut for our members and the paltry sum is conditional on RMT members agreeing to drastic changes in their working lives.

OTHER NEWS:

There will no services on Transport for Wales, West Midlands Railway or Great Western Railway through Hereford today (July 27).

Services are also expected to be affected tomorrow (Thursday, July 28) with some disruption to morning services due to staff and trains starting off in the wrong locations.

On Saturday, July 30, there will no service on any West Midlands Railway route due to strike action by members of driver union ASLEF.

People attending Commonwealth Games events will be encouraged to use alternative modes of travel, including specially laid on road transport.

Trains will also not run on the London to Hereford line past Oxford on Saturday, July 30.

Transport for Wales are currently expected to run a normal timetable on Saturday, but are advising customers to only travel if absolutely essential.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said: “It is very disappointing that these planned strikes are set to cause significant disruption to our customers.

"On both affected dates customers should only travel if their journey is essential and they have no means of transport available to them.

"On Saturday, July 30, the extent of the strike action means there will be no West Midlands Railway services at all and customers with essential reasons to travel will need to use alternative modes of transport."
