REGARDING Herefordshire Local Plan 2011 to 2041, does Herefordshire need 17,000 houses?

I don’t think so!

Herefordshire’s population in 2001 was 174,871; Herefordshire’s population in 2011 was 183,477;

Herefordshire’s population in 2021 was 187,100 (reference National Census records).

RELATED NEWS:

Growth between 2001 and 2011 was, about 4.9 per cent. Growth between 2011 and 2021 was about 1.97 per cent

Let’s be generous and say 5 per cent every 10 years, about 10 per cent in 20 years.

This amounts to 10 per cent of 200,000 (to make the sums easy), which is 20,000 people.

If, on average, there are two people per dwelling then 10,000 dwellings are sufficient, and most should be affordable by the Herefordshire average earner.

That’ll save some precious green fields!

So, do we need 17,000 new dwellings between 2021 and 2041?

I don’t think so!
