A HEREFORD man has been sent to the crown court after he was caught with child and extreme animal pornography.

Jeffrey Cooper entered guilty pleas to 10 charges when he appeared before magistrates.

He admitted two counts of possessing extreme pornographic images involving an animal between March 13, 2014 and November 25, 2020, one charge relating to images found on his Samsung Galaxy phone and one relating to images found on his found on his Toshiba laptop.

He also admitted possessing prohibited images of children on his laptop and prohibited images of children on his mobile phone between January 1, 2018 and November 9, 2020.

The 56-year-old further admitted using his laptop to make indecent category A, B, and C photographs of a child between January 9, 2014, and November and using his mobile phone to make indecent category A, B, and C photographs of a child between January 9, 2014 and November 25, 2020.

Prosecutor Melanie Winterflood said the matters were not suitable to be dealt with by magistrates as they are beyond their sentencing powers.

"There are a number of images," Miss Winterflood said.

"Sometimes in cases of this nature there may be one or two images, but there were in excess of 100 images of both categories A and B and more than 1,000 of category C. We are dealing with an awful lot of images and extreme pornographic images.

"There are a number of aggravating features including more than one device being involved, the period of time, the age of the children, the number of different children, the high volume of images, and the attempts to dispose of images using apps and programmes designed to hide or clear them."

Edmund Middleton, for Cooper, said he did not necessarily agree with all that had been said but that he would say the matter is at the ceiling of the court's powers.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction and Cooper, of Hurdman Walk, Hereford, was sent to Worcester Crown Court for sentencing on August 17.
