THE bin lorry involved in a crash which left one motorcyclist dead was working for Herefordshire Council.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said one man, a motorcyclist, died in the crash on the A44 between Bromyard and Leominster.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS emergency doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham with a paramedic and doctor on board attended the scene shortly after 10am on Wednesday (July 20), an ambulance service spokesperson said.

When ambulance staff arrived, they found the motorcyclist, a man, being given CPR by an off-duty doctor and bystanders, they said.

The man was in a critical condition and ambulance staff started advanced life support, near Bredenbury.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene a short time later.

FCC Environment, which runs Herefordshire Council waste collection services, said it could confirm an incident took place on July 20 at 10am on the A44 near Bredenbury.

"We are unable to make any further comment until the police conclude their investigation," a spokesperson said.

"Our thoughts are with the families of all of those affected at this time.”

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said: “This is a terribly sad incident and our thoughts are with all those affected.”

The road was closed for around seven hours on Wednesday as police investigated the crash.

It later reopened at around 5pm, West Mercia Police said.
