WELSH Water has issued an important message for customers in Herefordshire as it struggles to meet demand.

The not-for-profit water company which supplies most Herefordshire homes has issued the update for people living in large swathes of the county.

The message, displayed on the firm's interactive map, covers areas such as Hay-on-Wye, Bredwardine, Shobdon, Hope-under-Dinmore and Madley areas in the Wye and Lugg catchment.

It says the firm works around the clock to provide safe, clean and fresh water, but sometimes it needs help from customers.

RELATED NEWS:

One of the main challenges Welsh Water says it faces in the area is the high demand for water when the weather is warm.

This means it sometimes has problems getting the water through the pipes quickly enough to keep up with the demand.

It has therefore asked customers to think about how they use water this summer, particularly during the current heatwave with temperatures rising to 37C.

"We’re doing our bit by increasing the volume of drinking water we prepare and put into our network," the update said.

OTHER NEWS:

"Our teams are also working seven days a week, and often overnight, fixing leaks as soon as we find them."

It also shared tips on how to use less water:

  • Take a shower instead of a bath
  • Don’t leave the tap running when cleaning your teeth
  • Fill the washing machine or dishwasher before putting on
  • Fix any leaking taps
  • Use a watering can to water plants in the garden and avoid using hosepipes or sprinklers
