HEREFORD have signed central defender Orrin Pendley to their squad.

The 26-year-old played for Tamworth last season with his former clubs including Rushall, Kettering and Redditch.

He is the third central defender added to the Hereford squad for the forthcoming season.

"We need competition in that area, I think Luke (Haines) and Zak (Lilly) have been absolutely outstanding," said Hereford manager Josh Gowling talking to Keith Hall.

"But we've got two centre-halves at the football club.

"He talks, he organisers, he will ruffle a few feathers.

"That's what his personality is like and he likes to battle.

"He's as a non-nonsense centre-half that we've not had.

"Jamie (Grimes) was probably the last one of those that we've had, I'm not liking him to Grimes he's obviously a different player but he is strong and physical and we want that in the squad."

Pendley described himself as a 'powerful centre back' who likes the physical side of the game and to score goals.

Hereford signed the 26-year-old after just one training session this week.

He played in Saturday's 4-0 win over Malvern Town.

"We managed the game quite well with the ball," added Pendley.

"We controlled the tempo from the off. We didn't want to be running around in this heat so the manager told us to dictate the play which is what we did."
