THERE could soon be major roadworks at a Herefordshire junction which has been labelled as dangerous.

Ridgeway Cross, near Cradley on the A4103 Hereford to Worcester Road, has seen 12 people injured in crashes over the last four years.

Ward councillor Ellie Chowns has been pushing for action, and Herefordshire Council roads contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places has drawn up plans about what could be done to make the road safer.

Hosting a public meeting, Coun Chowns said it was a "useful opportunity" to see engineers' 10 ideas about what could be done, as well as for locals to have their questions answered.

The preferred option is two widen the road to create a third lane up the hill in a westerly direction so drivers will have a dedicated lane to turn right onto the B4220 Bromyard road.

Chockbury Lane would also be closed if experts' plans get the go-ahead.

That option now needs a detailed design, the Green Party councillor said, and funding will need to be found – with initial estimates coming in at £904,023.05.

"It's a major project so it will take some time, but I feel we are making some progress towards addressing this dangerous junction," Coun Chowns said after the meeting."

She said that once a detailed design is finished, there will be a full public consultation and the public will have chances to give feedback.
