A DRUG-DRIVER has been banned from the roads after he was caught out on a busy main road in Herefordshire.

David Thomas James Brooke admitted drug-driving when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

He had been pulled over by police on the A49 at Much Birch due to the manner of his driving at 7.50pm on December 30, prosecutor Eleanor Peart said.

Brooke admitted he had been using drugs and was arrested after a roadside drug wipe test returned a positive result for cannabis.

An evidential blood test taken in custody revealed he had 5.8 microgrammes of cannabis metabolite delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood. The legal limit is two.

Marilena Di Vitantonio, for Brooke, noted that the prosecutor had said the 29-year-old had been pulled over for the manner of his driving but said there were no further details given by police in relation to that.

"He accepts he was under the influence of cannabis at the time," she said.

"He was in a situation he does not wish to explain in open court, and says it is a wake-up call and that he has not smoked cannabis since. He appreciates the consequences of his actions.

"He is self-employed and explained that there is a minimum disqualification of 12 months and that there is no discretion, but there are no aggravating features and I would ask you to consider a 12-month disqualification."

Brooke, of Norland Place, Walford, Ross-on-Wye, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £123. He must also pay costs of £135 and a ££4 victim surcharge.
