A THREE-BEDROOM cottage by the river Wye in Herefordshire is on the market for the first time in nearly 100 years, agents say.

Purplebricks says the quaint cottage in Glewstone, near Ross-on-Wye, is steeped in history and is on the market for £800,000.

The home, called Glewstone Boat, is an original ferry cottage that was one of the stops for barges that travelled upstream with goods, produce and people when water was a main travel option.

“The cottage has been home for the same family for nearly 100 years, where keen fisherman from across the world have been entertained, and where the famous Wizard of the Wye, Robert Pashley, fished,” agents say.

They also say the property has some of the most amazing river frontage along the river Wye.

The cottage itself boasts spacious accommodation across two floors.

On the ground floor, there are two reception rooms, an open plan kitchen/breakfast room, a pantry and a downstairs WC. There is access via a back door into a car port.

Upstairs there are three double bedrooms with the third bedroom accessed via bedroom two and all bedrooms come with views over the garden and river. There is a re-fitted family bathroom.

The current owners are also said to be seeking planning permission to extend the property from a three-bedroom cottage into a five-bedroom cottage.

The cottage is approached by a long driveway that is accessed directly from the A40 where it sweeps towards the cottage. Through gates there is parking and access to a single garage.

Many upgrades have been made to the cottage, with excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. Other benefits include oil-fired central heating and there is no onward chain.

The gardens and grounds are a “true delight” and provide a wonderful setting with idyllic views up and downstream, agents say.

A path leads down some steps from the house to the river where there is a landing stage beside a weeping willow.

“There is over 150ft of river frontage with a large level garden that leads to a wooded area at one and and fields at the other end,” they say, adding there is also a summer house.
