THE owners of a Hereford shop have been left “devastated” after their cat was attacked by a dog.

Mother and daughter duo Izzy and Mimi Harrison own Luna Gifts, a lifestyle shop based in the city centre of Hereford, in Commercial Street.

On Saturday evening (May 21) they lost their beloved cat Coco as her injuries were so bad that she was put to sleep as she would never have recovered, they said.

She was nearly 16 years old and shared the same birthday as Izzy.

“We are devastated,” said the pair.

“To witness what took place will stay with us forever.”

Now they want people to sign a petition to push for owners to muzzle their dogs and make it a legal duty to report when a dog attacks or kills a cat.

The petition reads: “If you are the owner of a dog that attacks a cat, or you witness a cat being attacked and killed by a dog, then you should have a legal duty to report it. More than likely it is someone’s pet.”

The petition was not set up by the pair, but they shared the link as they wanted to raise awareness to encourage people to report an incident. It currently has nearly 14,000 signatures (at the time of writing).

Here is the link to the petition which ends on Monday (May 26).
