A HEREFORDSHIRE farmer has been sent for trial after denying failing to care for his animals properly.

Richard Michael Sparey pleaded guilty to 10 charges and not guilty to one charge when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

The court heard the 45-year-old had failed to hold category two animal by-product material, namely bovine carcasses, in such a manner that birds or animals could not access them at Demesne Farm in Garway between March 8 and 16 and at Lodge Farm in Herefordshire between March 8 and June 10 and had failed to dispose of the carcasses in accordance with regulations.

He further failed to hold category one and category two animal by-products, namely bovine carcasses, in such a manner that birds or animals could not access them at Nanty Wain Farm in Herefordshire between March 9 and 16, and failed to dispose of them in accordance with regulations.

He denied failing to take all reasonable steps to ensure that the needs of cattle and sheep for which he was responsible were met between March 8 and June 10 at Garway and Broad Oak.

Sparey, who is of Garway, Herefordshire, will appear before Hereford magistrates for trial on October 13.
