NEW signs have finally been installed at a Herefordshire car crash hotspot, months after campaigning by a local councillor.

Coun Ellie Chowns said she was "really concerned" after hearing of the hotspot at the junction of two main roads between Hereford and Worcester.

Reports on social media and to Green Party councillor Ellie Chowns highlighted a number of crashes at the junction of the A4103 and the B4214 Bromyard to Ledbury road, at the bottom of Fromes Hill.

RELATED NEWS:

Several times over the autumn and winter months, cars had been seen in the ditch at the end of the road from Ledbury, having overshot the junction and crashes – with one local saying "it's a fatal accident waiting to happen".

One of the issues, Green Party councillor Ellie Chowns said, was a missing give way sign on the B4214 from Ledbury, which had previously been replaced.

But she carried on campaigning for new signage at the junction, which has now been put up along with a number of reflective verge posts.

"The new signs look good," she said.

"These are the new directional signs that have finally been installed at the A4103/B4214 junction at the bottom of Fromes Hill.

"I've been lobbying for this since January and I'm really delighted this has been done.

"The new reflective signs should make a big difference to road safety at this junction, and hopefully will prevent any more vehicles overshooting and ending up in the ditch."

OTHER NEWS:

In February, Coun Chowns said she was "continuing to chase" on the issues, with one person living in her Bishop's Frome and Cradley ward saying it was only time before someone was killed.

After counting six crashes in a short space of time, Jane Clueit said on Coun Chowns's Facebook page: "The addition of rumble strips could also help considerably.

"The frequency of accidents happening now is just ridiculous and it’s sadly a fatal accident waiting to happen."
