- HEREFORD fell just short of challenging league winners Gateshead falling to a 2-1 defeat.
- Hereford started brightly against the league leaders with Tom Owen-Evans sending a searching ball over for Ryan McLean which just evaded him.
- Miles Storey saw his effort fly just over before Owen-Evans also tested the goal but his effort dropped wide.
- Macauley Langstaff showed his danger on 12 minutes racing onto a through ball before being denied by Wolves loanee Andreas Sondergaard.
- A minute later Langstaff opened the scoring finding the ball inside the box before firing low past the goalkeeper.
- Hereford had the chance for an immediate equaliser with McLean finding Owen-Evans in space who took a touch before lasing his effort wide.
- Dan Ward was next to test the Hereford goal with his effort from outside the box forcing a fine save from Sondergaard.
- Danny Greenfield was next to test the Bulls goal before Ward rattled the crossbar with his effort as the hosts took control.
- Langstaff was nearly handed a second on 29 minutes dispossessing Haines before seeing his effort saved well by Sondergaard.
- Gateshead were keen to impress a large home gate and Langstaff this time fed Cedwyn Scott who was also met by the Bulls goalkeeper.
- Langstaff had another chance before half-time breaking away on a quick counter-attack before being denied by the goalkeeper who was quickly off his line.
- The game exploded again after 70 minutes with firstly Olley finding Paul Blackett whose stooping header at the near post was headed wide.
- Miles Storey then created space at the other end before finding substitute Keenan Patten whose effort was tipped over.
- However, moments later Gateshead doubled their lead when Luke Haines looked to have been blocked off the ball allowing Langstaff into the box before beating the goalkeeper.
- Sondergaard was forced into action again before Hereford replied with Storey linking up with Seb Revan with the Aston Villa loanee turning and finding the net.

- HEREFORD have made the trip to National League North winners Gateshead for their final league game of the 2021/22 season.
- Gateshead were crowned champion last weekend but will lift the trophy today in front of a crowd of 3,000.
- Their home record is won 17, drawn one and lost two.
- Hereford are in 11th with an away record of won five, drawn five and lost 10.
- They could rise to 10th or drop to 13th depending on results today.
- Hereford suffered a 2-0 defeat to Gateshead at Edgar Street in January with Elliot Forbes and Dom Tear both scoring.
- Hereford manager Josh Gowling says that waiting for his targets to make a decision has delayed his retained list.
