Here in brief are some of the planning applications recently lodged or decided in Herefordshire.

  • A plan to build 10 houses in Ewyas Harold has been resubmitted after an earlier bid was withdrawn.
The new proposal moves the houses away from the western end of the site, south of Elm Green Road, thus “protecting views and removing the need to divert any footpaths”, reduces the size of the larger homes, and proposes “simpler and more rural forms”. • A bid to build three cottages by the village of Lower Eggleton on the A4103 Hereford-Worcester road has fallen foul of the requirement not to impact on the county’s protected watercourses.
Planners said they were not convinced the proposal would not harm the River Lugg Site of Special Scientific Interest, and concluded it also constituted “unjustified development outside of the village’s settlement boundary”. Ref: 220317
  • An application has been made to erect a block of three grey-clad light industrial and storage units along with office space off the A49 opposite the Marlbrook Cadbury’s chocolate factory south of Leominster.
The proposed development, by a recycling and waste disposal firm, would employ 15 people if built. Ref: 220723
  • Nine “speculative” industrial units and car parking have been approved on the Hereford Enterprise Zone, Rotherwas, on which work has already begun.
These will stand alongside nine others completed in 2019 on Munitions Close, by the Hereford Times office. Ref: 220625
  • The owners of a bed-and-breakfast, Norton House in Whitchurch, have applied to convert a guests’ reading room into an publicly accessible art gallery.
This “would be wholly compatible with the village setting, add a further reason to visit, (and) support local artists”, their application says. Ref:221075
