A HEREFORD road will be closed for an event to celebrate the life of a much-loved man and city 'legend' tomorrow.

Bridge Street and part of St Martin's Street, between King Street and Wye Street, in Hereford will be closed between 3pm and 6.30pm on Saturday for the event at Jamal's Kebab House.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

The event is being held in memory of popular city figure and kebab shop owner, Jamal Haider, described by his friend and Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Paul Stevens, as a "legend in the city", after his death in February.

A funeral was held for Mr Haider, who was a familiar face to many in the county, in Birmingham, but his family have decided to open the doors of Bridge Street's Jamal's Kebab House for one last time on Saturday to give his friends and customers the opportunity to celebrate his memory.

Hundreds of people have responded to an event invitation created on Facebook by Mr Haider's family for the Hereford wake, which will be held at 4pm on April 2.
