I CONCUR wholeheartedly with Antje Preston’s plea (Hereford Times, March 24) for an easing of care home rules.

Time to scrap Covid measures in Herefordshire care homes
We are in a totally different situation now than we were in 2020 when the Government insisted on discharging patients to care homes without first testing them for Covid, which not only increased the spread of infection but also led to many deaths among care home residents.
Covid will be with us well into the future.
Over the last year or so there has been good compliance with testing arrangements and the vaccination programme which has meant that care home staff and residents contracting Covid have not generally been seriously unwell.
It is therefore time for residents to have their rights to spend time with family and friends restored, and to partake in activities that enhance their physical and mental wellbeing.
Even hospitals now have a more flexible approach to visiting than care homes do.
Quality of life is important and we need the Government to listen to residents, carers, families and friends, and ease some of the visiting restrictions now.
