COUNCILLORS Anne-Marie Probert rightly criticises the Green-led coalition running Herefordshire Council for increasing council tax by 3 per cent and wastefully spending public money on unnecessary projects at a time of economic difficulties.
One of the most glaring nonsenses is the spending of more than three quarters of a million pounds on planters.
This money could far be better spent assisting all road users by mending the disgraceful potholes that litter the county’s roads.

As the council’s own recent polling shows, five in six of all residents rate road maintenance as unsatisfactory, or very unsatisfactory.
If this council is serious about giving priority to the wishes of residents then why does it not fill the potholes rather than waste money on planters?
