CONTRASTING my experience as a regular bus passenger with Green Party ‘spin’ highlights the sort of issue that contributed to my decision to resign from Green Party membership last October after 16 years membership.

On a Green Party political broadcast that was aired in late February, Herefordshire Green Party Coun Ellie Chowns cites introduction of ‘free bus travel on weekends’ as one of the 30 Green Party accomplishments nationally worth featuring.

OTHER NEWS:

Walking back from Hereford town centre to Belmont on a Sunday I observed more than 10 bus routes on one timetable board, the vast majority of which had no Saturday, Sunday or public holiday service while there was a steady stream of traffic along the Belmont Road; a lost opportunity for reducing car traffic, I thought, and more while I can walk back home in the time it would take me to board an hourly 74 bus (and some services operate only one day a week!)

I argue that the ‘free weekend bus travel’ statement is ‘overegging the pudding’; or, for a vegan alternative, too much banana skin as gelling agent.
